"When one door closes, another one opens."
What an incredible metaphor for life, a proverb that conveys the idea of optimism and opportunity in the face of setbacks or challenges. It suggests that when one opportunity or situation ends or proves unsuccessful, another one is likely to present itself.
The metaphor's message is to remain hopeful, adaptable, and open to new possibilities, even in difficult times. It encourages a positive outlook and the belief that change, even if initially perceived as negative, can lead to unforeseen and potentially positive outcomes.
To say it bluntly, metaphors are a way of life for me.
When I trust that things are not for my highest good, I tend to change things up in my space, wardrobe, routine, eating habits, etc., to energetically invite change to take over.
I am guided to close a door, or it closes for me. Either way, it’s a Gift.
So, why not give a nod to change?
Why not create a physical correspondence to show your adaptability to transformation?
A few weeks ago, I decided to embrace “the doors that are closing” — accepting what IS and what shall BE next.
To honor this, I had the closet doors in both my office and spare bedroom painted and knobs changed out.
My office doors were painted an earthy moss green. I chose this color to warm up the room and support my magickal work (my primary working altar is in my office) through the elements of water and earth — both dominant in my birth chart (Earth signs & lots of Scorpio).
These two elements help to nourish my consciousness, an agent of the spirit. If I need to uplift my spirit, I make and embrace change.
Embracing the spicy waters of Scorpio paired with my naturally grounded and logical mind by relating it to this project, is one way I can accept more of who I am, which I know doesn’t always resonate with everyone.
And, as it's been brought to my attention more than I care to know, I am triggering or at the very least, my content is. It is what it is. When one door closes, another one opens.
To complement my personal style, which dominantly haute boheme, I adorned the doors with antique brass floral knobs. There is something about the magic of the old world that reminds me to honor what came before me, to treasure the past without being stuck in it. Just love it for what it is, what it was and what it’s taught me — to remind me that what is behind me has helped shape who I am becoming. When one door closes, another one opens.
While my initial inspiration began with refining the spare bedroom, a potent expression of my love for Maximilism, I wanted to bridge the old world with my trippy mind. I am a thinker, a ponderer, a contemplater — someone who LOVES to peel the onion until I find the heartbeat.
Well, if you're also a deep diver, you know it can take you to very strange places. I needed the grounding vibe of the old world to give me a hug from time to time; to let me know it's okay to sip your tea slowly and just listen too — a reminder I am going to be okay.
I chose a cinnamon color for its autumn invocation, a season that celebrates being at home making soup and sipping hot chocolate (if you know me, you know I love hot chocolate! ☕️). I’ll share recipes soon. Stay tuned.
The spare room is also the room I use to scroll Pinterest (usually meandering home decor photography and gazing at alchemical mandalas).
To top it off, I found this cozy earth moss green throw (shown above) that really sealed the deal. This room is one of my favorite spaces in the entire house! It's small, cozy, and has everything I need to feel safe and loved.
It’s also a space I perform magickal rituals.
THE 72 DIVINE NAMES
I remember a recent ritual I performed in this room, which involved invoking Mikael the 42nd Divine Name of the Shemhamphorash.
I had a situation where a woman wouldn't leave me alone. She just kept going on and on and wouldn't stop. Sometimes there is just no reasoning with people; you try your best and unfortunately, you can't find common ground. It is what it is. But being the overly Earth energy I am, I needed closure.
It was time to perform magick.
So I resolved the issue with a simple ritual using one of the 72 Divine Names and its corresponding seal. I never heard from her again. When one door closes, another one opens.
SAYING NO TO SELF SACRIFICE
I’m still learning to accept that I cannot please everyone without sacrificing my own boundaries or values. That is something I will not do. I won't sacrifice myself for anyone. I won't throw out my own 'rules and regulations' to appease another’s demands.
(But I won’t say that I am not hurt from time to time. I know my Will could be stronger.)
But the power that comes when you allow doors to close that aren’t your doors, helps you remain congruent and in integrity. This is also how you strengthen your Will. This has been proven time and time again. You just have to allow the change to take place. When one door closes, another one will always open.
This is why I love home decor. It's magick. It allows me to see my life as the allegorical tale it IS but with a deeper esoteric plot and conclusion. My home tells this story. And every day I find little ways to honor myself, even if its just a small tweak or a simple magick ritual performed in my favorite room.
Changing my closet doors was more than just an inexpensive upgrade to my office space and spare bedroom; it was a magickal ritual that acted as a metaphor, an acceptance that change is necessary.
I’m okay when things don’t work out or if I’ve managed to tick someone off because I know inmy heart it’s never done with malice, spite, or with ill intention. Sometimes your boundaries just don’t work for others, and that’s okay.
No matter how difficult the situation gets or has become, when you switch things up, you’re giving it a hug… energetically. And that’s the queue the Universe needed to hug you right back. When one door closes, another one opens.
